Obituary for Sheila Mae Kaylor at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel (2024)

All that she had, tells of what she done. All whom she loved, tells of who she was.

Sheila Mae Kaylor(Baumgardner) of 2054 Willis Gap rd, Fancy Gap, in Patrick county Virginia. born Oct 28, 1956 age 67, to the late Melva Mae Robbin’s and Carl Baumgardner, of southeast Kentucky, changed dimensions, May 28, 2024.

A dedicated worker, some of Sheila’s professions throughout life were of the machinists industry, of the antique trade, medical professional and lastly, professional housekeeper’, amongst others.

Of her many passions, the highlights were her being an angel of a mother-granny/nanny, gardening/fishing/food prep/preservation. Sheila always put her tiny hands to the plow, and never failed to care for her family and friends. All whom she knew were blessed with the fruit of the talents, gifts, labors, hobbies and gracefulness she carried all throughout her life. Sheila enjoyed crafting/painting/drawing/sewing/canning, to name a few of her hobbies, of many.

Sheila was an antique(s) collector, a hobby she’d began in her early years with her ex husband Paul Begley, the late father of her only daughter and sole heiress, Brandi Begley-Bevins(NC). Buying and trading antique items/furniture of all sorts/functions, along with having many gifted to her by those who loved her, filled the sense of nostalgia Sheila always always for ‘old stuff’ and made her lifestyle one she’d long planned, manifesting the dreams she carried in her heart, from childhood. Sheila sewed by hand, making curtains and other items with her sewing machine. Sheila fixed her makeup and practiced her skin care routine, daily. Sheila had many beautiful clothes and heirloom Jewelry, she switched out for daily wear and different events she attended. “I always make sure I look nice”, she’d say, with a touches of both humility and class and then follow-up with “I don’t want to go out a’lookin like a haint…”, adding her unique southern slang to the conversation and giving those around her a shock and chuckle. Though Sheila could not drive at the end of her days, she was known to be a great driver, her and her daughter Brandi traveling from state abroad such as North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana etc (locations they lived at different points, as Sheila was a strong, independent and single mother) was a lifestyle. Sheila always kept a functional and active vehicle on hand, because she ‘felt comfortable behind a wheel’., as they say. Sheila grew many types of food in her garden(s) in every locality she was in and growing her heirloom’ beans’, a tradition of ‘ Ol’ Appalachia ‘, was something therapeutic & fulfilling for her. She was proud that her daughter and son-in-law Alvin Bevins, who she loved as a son took up the tradition and will continue that legacy, as well as others she graced the world with.

Sheila made/constructed holiday baskets, wreaths, holiday trees home-canned and prepped goods baskets, candle holders and the list goes on, for those near and dear including medical personnel and those she done business with. She was a patient at ‘Tri-Area clinic’ for a lot of years and a loyal customer to ‘Bradford Exchange’, ‘Carol’s Consignment’ and the list goes on of business acquaintances she had and friends she’d made paying homage to the beautiful and decorated soul Sheila was. Everyone recognized her 4ft 8in self walking through their door and was over the moon to know her.

Sheila was a spiritual person with spiritual gifts, and she told many times of how she’d seen her ‘guardian angel’, the first time being when praying for a child and another time after a tragic car accident she had suffered in her youth. Sheila kept the appointment she made with the blue-eyed, blonde hair lady in a white robe whose presence never left Sheila, when times got hard. Sheila spoke to her daughter the last time with a clear and convincing tone and demeanor, in which she spoke of her experiences, feelings and wishes. Sheila went home in the spirt of peace, with all loose-ends tied up and in expectancy that her appointed time was nearing to be at perfect peace. Sheila is loved, adored, terribly missed, aggrieved and forever remembered by her family, and we know those in the community will be saddened to hear of her home- going as well. We ask that you all remember and honor Sheila for who she was to you individually and know that you were an important part of her thoughts, mentions, and prayers.

Sheila is survived by her only child Brandi Begley-Bevins and husband Alvin(NC); her first and only born grandson Damian(VA); her only granddaughter Cassidy(TN); and sister Patricia(TN). Sheila was preceded in her passing by brother Donald Ray(OH/IN), Sister Betty Sue(OH), brother ‘Jack’(NC)
