In Loving Memory: Obituaries Of The Week February 6, 2022 - Smokey Barn News (5)Brenda Sue Shelton Creasy, 77, of Springfield, passed from this life on Thursday January 27, 2022, at TriStar NorthCrest Medical Center. Her remains were cremated and will be spread on a warm sunny day at the farm where she grew up. There will be a time of visitation with the family on Thursday February 10th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Robertson County Funeral Home.

Brenda was born June 1, 1944, in Springfield, TN. She graduated from Springfield High School and was retired from the former Flowers by Sandra in Greenbrier. Our mom was an animal lover and would take any furry animal given to her. She was preceded in death by her parents: Martin Crockett and Hattie Pauline Roberts Shelton and by her son: Jeffery Mark Creasy.

Obituary for Jerry Marvin Reeves

In Loving Memory: Obituaries Of The Week February 6, 2022 - Smokey Barn News (8)Jerry Marvin Reeves, age 83 of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 5, 2022 in Springfield surrounded by his family. He was born November 17, 1938 in Springfield to the late William Arthur “PopGun” and Sadie Parrish Reeves. He professed a strong faith in Jesus Christ around the age of 12 and was a member of Springfield Baptist Church. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1957 and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from Tennessee Tech in business. He served in the Air National Guard. He was a highly awarded salesman for Atlantic Richfield (Sinclair) Oil, was owner of Reeves Bi-Rite, and a rural mail carrier for many years.

Mr. Reeves was loved by all who knew him, bringing joy to everyone. His bass voice was a delight to all who heard him sing. He enjoyed singing old gospel hymns and was in various church choirs. He loved to fish for stripers and deep sea fish. He was a member of Percy Priest Striper Club. He also loved to teach children in Sunday School and share his faith with others. He was a Mason.

Mr. Jerry was completely devoted to his family. He was a loving son who took care of his parents. He was the best Dad and “Der-Derry” in the world. He was a caring spouse who lovingly cared for his wife. He was a friend to all who knew him and could make anyone laugh.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Sandra Hendley Reeves; a step-son, Tim Goostree; and favorite dog, Scottie.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Iva and Chris Biggs of Springfield; step-son, Todd Goostree of Adairville, KY; grandchildren, Sadie, Josh, Laura Jayne, David, and Jacob Biggs; mother of Iva, Joyce Ann Reeves; step grandchildren, Alicyn, Greg, and Ginger Goostree; step great grandchildren, Jade, Bryce, and Broch Osterhoff and Gavin Murray.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, February 11, 2022 at 2:00 PM in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home with Brother Martin Babb officiating. Burial will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Jimmy Thies, Jeff Randolph, Jeff Leftrick, Don Osborne, Jim Driver, Jason Hendley and Mike Blackburn serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Sergeant Major Frankie Pulley (retired) and Rachel Cothron.. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 4 until 7 PM and Friday from 12 noon until the hour of service.

In Loving Memory: Obituaries Of The Week February 6, 2022 - Smokey Barn News (11)Robert Jerry “Bobby Joe” Williams, age 80 of Springfield, TN, passed from this life Thursday, February 3, 2022, at NorthCrest Medical Center. Memorial services will be conducted at 4 pm on Monday February 14, 2022, at the Adairville Baptist Church in Adairville, Kentucky with Pastor Phillip Alexander officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 pm until 4 pm on Monday at the church.

Mr. Williams was born April 19, 1941, in Washington Park, IL to the late Joseph Emanual and Evelyn Ramsey Williams. He was a former member of Highland Southern Baptist Church in Highland, IL and Bethel Baptist Church in Troy, IL. He was a 1961 graduate of East St. Louis, IL High School and spent his summers growing up in Adairville, KY working in the tobacco fields. He married his wife of 52 years, Nancy Boyles Williams on August 23, 1964, at Adairville Baptist Church. After marriage, Robert and Nancy lived in Russellville, KY and he worked at Red Kap. The family moved to East St. Louis, IL in 1967, Marine, IL in 1971, and then to Highland, IL in 1975. Robert lived in Highland until 2017 when he moved to Springfield, TN after the death of his wife in 2016. During his time in Illinois, he worked for Terminal Railroad and then Eaton B-Line where he was a metal cutter. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed taking hikes and working puzzles.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Boyles Williams; brother, Ronald Lee Williams; and sister, Donna Sue Dyal.

She was born June 16, 1937 in Portland, TN to the late JB and Bertha McDougal Collins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Claude Dunavin; son, Wayne Dunavin; sisters, Evelyn Dorris, Juanita Adco*ck and Catherine Webb and Marie Paris.
She was a retired Bookkeeper with United Methodist Publishing House and was a 50 year plus member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
She loved her family very much and spending time with them were most important to her. She enjoyed her time attending church, traveling and reading.

Mr. Pritchett was born on November 20, 1957 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Harold & Earline McClure Pritchett. He has worked as a courier for 1220 Exhibits in Nashville for over 30 years. He enjoyed listening to all kinds of music, loved to fish, and mow his yard, for it was peaceful to him. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and was a lover of life and nature.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2pm Saturday, February 12, 2022 in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield, TN. Burial will follow in the Springfield Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 3-8pm Friday, February 11, 2022 and again from 1pm until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.

Ruby was born in Cheatham County, Tennessee on April 29, 1932, to Homer Felts Sr and Nellie Mae Felts and was the 3rd of 6 children. She grew up in Springfield, Tennessee, where she met Walter Larmon Jr and married him on Dec 8th, 1951. Their marriage produced 6 children. In October 1964, the family moved to Pontiac, Michigan where she resided until her death.

Ruby was a devoted mother and Granny whose life revolved around her children and grandchildren. She was also a loving sister, aunt, and cousin and enjoyed staying in touch with them to find out what was going on ‘down home’ as she always referred to Springfield. She worked at a local corner store and a dry cleaners for many years where she became known to many who loved to spend a little extra time visiting with her when they came in because of her friendly smile, welcoming presence, and gift for gab. Ruby truly never met a stranger. She was a very strong woman who weathered many storms and always persevered. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Ruby is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Walter, her brothers, Harold Felts, Ronald Felts, and her sisters, Frances Moon and Margie Sawyers.

Interment will follow in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Charles “Meredith” Shannon Sr., Charlie Shannon, Jim Sprouse, Ken Mathias, John Traughber, and Allen Shannon serving as pallbearers. Mrs. Traughber was born on June 18, 1926, to the late James Vincent Sr. and Mildred McMurry Sprouse, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, a dedicated homemaker, supporter of Tennessee State Parks, lover of road trips, collected antiques and was an avid supporter of the Springfield First United Methodist Church. “Miss Jeanne” was a lifelong resident of Springfield. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Lloyd Fyke Traughber, son, Robert Allen Shannon, Jr., stepson, Henry Mark Traughber, and stepdaughter, Diane Elaine Highsmith.

Jeanne Sprouse Traughber is survived by son and daughter-in law, Charles Meredith Sr. and Susan Shannon of Springfield, stepson, John Raymond Traughber of Springfield, brother, James Vincent Jr. and Velma Sprouse, of El Paso, TX, sisters, Cynthea Sprouse Sexton of Cambridge, MA, Mildred “Cissie” Sprouse and Ken Mathias of Cullman, AL, grandchildren, Robert Allen III and Rena Shannon, Jennifer Shannon, Charlie and Shanda Shannon, Rachel Rhea Shannon, and great grandchildren, Caitlin Shannon, Ali Shannon, Rebecca Shannon, Philip Shannon, Olivia Shannon, and Lauren Shannon.

She loved to laugh and had a warm heart for everyone.

Joy loved dancing, reading, and singing. Her family was dear to her, and she loved spending time with each of them. Whenever she greeted you, it was always with a smile. Joy loved and accepted everyone for who and what they were, and she only wanted the same in return.

She is survived by her daughters, Taylor Gail Abney and Sabrina Frances Abney, both of Orlinda; parents, Bryant and Gail Stark of Orlinda; brothers and sister-in-law, Steve Stark and Matt and Jennifer Stark, all of Orlinda; nephew, Flynt Matthew Stark of Orlinda; and niece, Isabell Briley Stark of Orlinda.

She loved the Lord, her church and her family with all of her heart. She enjoyed quilting and was a wonderful cook.

She is survived by her father – Charles J. (Donna) Bradley of Springfield; mother – Sharon E. Petty of Hendersonville; children – Jeremy (Amanda) Oakley of Greenbrier, Chase Allen of Goodlettsville, Shayna Allen of Goodlettsville; grandchildren – Tyler Oakley and Blake Oakley of Greenbrier.

Shanon loved her family and grandsons deeply and spending time with them was what she cherished most. She always loved being outside and would never give up a chance to be at the beach, even though that was not often enough.

He worked for Marshall & Bruce in the Printing and Book Binding Business until his retirement. Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He loved Southern Gospel Music and had been a member of the Good News Quartet and sang with New Jerusalem. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church and had attended Erin Church of the Nazarene, while living in Erin, TN. He played baseball as a child, played church volleyball, coached the church men’s league, umpired at Moss Wright Park and Beech High City Leagues and umpired the fast pitch girl’s leagues. He was also an avid bowler and enjoyed playing golf.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Arden Sanders; sister, Sandra Lorene Jenkins. Michael professed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined St. James Baptist Church in Cedar Hill, Tennessee.

Michael was educated in the Robertson County School System. He began his love for truck driving as a teenager and drove until his health declined. He loved fishing, watching races, and attending tractor pulls.

He united in Holy Matrimony to Carla Smith-Babb on August 5, 2012.

On January 29, 2022 departed this life.

Interment followed in the Bellwood Cemetery in Adams with Ryan Caruthers, Justin Head, Eric Caruthers, K.C. Demers, Lewis Dean Wallace III, and Kolby Tyler Dubowsky serving as pallbearers. The family received friends on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Wallace was born June 13, 1938, in Dover, TN to the late Basil and Evelyn Lewis Wallace. He married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Shadowens, in February of 1957 and this year would be their 65th wedding anniversary. He attended Lighthouse Baptist Church in Springfield for many years. Mr. Wallace, along with his wife, owned and operated Dean Food Land, Dean Country Meat’s, and many other businesses in Nashville for 35 years. Working was his hobby, and he always enjoyed the grocery business and being with his employees and customers. Mr. Wallace owned the Lazy D Ranch in Cedar Hill. Not only did he enjoy farming the land, he and Ms. Margaret raised their family on their ranch and have lived there for over 50 years. Family was his world, and he always enjoyed any opportunity for a family gathering with his children, grandchildren, siblings, and anyone that wanted to join in with them. The highlight of any given day for Mr. Wallace, was sitting in his sunroom and looking at all of God’s creation that he enjoyed so much. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter: Janet Lynn Wallace, and by his sister: Sue Moore.

In Loving Memory: Obituaries Of The Week February 6, 2022 - Smokey Barn News (103)Marion Franklin Balthrop “Frank”, age 90 of Chapmansboro, Tennessee, died Saturday, January 29, 2022 at his home.

Funeral services were conducted at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View at 2:00PM on Tuesday, February 1st, with Donald Ray Moore officiating. Burial followed in Mallory’s Cemetery with Hayley Frazier, Wyatt Balthrop, Bradley Balthrop Lee, Tyler Balthrop, Houston Newman, Austin Clark, Lucas Clark, Trent Balthrop, and Clay Balthrop serving as pallbearers.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Monday, January 31st from 3:00PM until 8:00PM and again on Tuesday from 12:00PM until the hour of service at 2:00PM.

Mr. Balthrop was born on July 9, 1931 in Chapmansboro, Tennessee to the late Elbert & Martha Morris Balthrop. He worked for Eli Whitt Cigar Company as a receiving clerk and then later farmed. He loved his family, friends, grandkids, and most especially he loved his precious wife. Mr. Balthrop was a member of Good Springs Free Will Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Burton, R.W., Dorris, J.B., Ray, Howard, and Clyde Balthrop; and sisters, Dorothy Hudgens and Frances Head.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Nellie Jo Balthrop; sons, Ricky (Helen) Balthrop and Randy (Lori) Balthrop; daughters, Tammy (Chuck) Farmer and Linda Kay (Taylor) Clark; sisters, Dimple Gupton, Bonnie Moore, and Faye Murphy; grandchildren, In Loving Memory: Obituaries Of The Week February 6, 2022 - Smokey Barn News (104)Bradley & Tom Balthrop Lee, Tyler & Erika Balthrop, Houston & Tasha Newman, Hayley & Dustin Frazier, Austin & Emily Clark, Trent & Lauren Balthrop, and Lucas Clark; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In Loving Memory: Obituaries Of The Week February 6, 2022 - Smokey Barn News (106)Elizabeth Ann Hyde Jones was born October 29, 1955, to the union of the late David Hyde Jr. and Maxine Darden in Robertson County, Tennessee. She departed this life on January 28, 2022.

She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and joined the Church of God Sanctified under the leadership of Elder Boyd E. Kinzer and later Elder William D. Birdsong. Elizabeth served diligently in Sanctuary Choir. She dearly loved the Lord and working in the church.

She attended the Robertson County Public School System and graduated with the Class of 1974.

On February 9, 1980, Elizabeth was united in Holy Matrimony to Edward Lee Jones. She was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Elizabeth was affectionately known as “Boogie” to all her family and friends. She had a very outgoing personality, loved to talk and never met a stranger. She was always willing to do whatever she could to help anyone in need. Boogie would often help someone, and no one would ever know she had helped them. It gave her great joy to bless others.

She was employed by Kroger for thirty-three years as a cashier. Boogie was dearly loved by all her customers while working there. In addition to Kroger, she was also employed by the Robertson County School System for three years.

Boogie was the backbone of her large extended family and made sure everyone got together for reunions and special occasions. She also loved cooking, dancing and singing.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by four sisters: Patricia Shannon, Mattie Hyde, Penny Shannon and Margaret Shannon.

Elizabeth leaves to cherish her memories; husband: Edward L. We will grieve her death today, tomorrow, and many days to come. Savanna started her career at the Sheriff’s Office as a Corrections Officer in December of 2017 at the age of 18 and was promoted to Booking Officer in the Detention Facility in November of 2018.

“Savanna had aspirations of advancing her career to the Patrol Division and made that dream a reality when she was promoted to Patrol Deputy in May 2020, and officially graduated from Walter State Law Enforcement Academy in September 2020.

Interment followed in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Brandon Walton, Jeremy Hudson, Jr., Bo Walton, Dakota Adco*ck, Jeremy Henderson, Adam Adco*ck, Jeff Jones, and Rich Brady serving as pallbearers. The family received friends on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Parks was born July 5, 1944, in Springfield to the late John Edward and Daisy Crow Woodard. She was a graduate of Greenbrier High School, was a homemaker, and was a member of Flewellyn Baptist Church. She enjoyed singing gospel music, working crossword puzzles, and along with her husband she enjoyed gardening, and feeding the birds and squirrels. Her family was her life that she so enjoyed being with, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The highlight of her day was sitting with her husband, Billy, on the back porch enjoying the sunshine and all of God’s creation.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son: Troy Parks, by her brothers: Burton and David Woodard, and by her sisters: Jeannie Copley, Ruth McArthur, and Rose Meadows. Mrs. Simmons was born November 13, 1929, in Cross Plains. She was a graduate of East Robertson High School, where she was a star Basketball player and graduated with honors. She was a homemaker and a member of First Presbyterian Church in El Dorado, AR. While living in El Dorado, she did volunteer work in her community. Mrs. Simmons was an avid golfer and she made stained glass crafts. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend to all that knew her. Mrs. Simmons loved spending time with her family and enjoying life with the many years that God blessed her with. She was preceded in death by her father: L.O. He also enjoyed raising a vegetable garden and he loved football, especially the Tennessee Volunteers and the Tennessee Titans.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Kenneth, Jimmy, and William Hulsey, and sisters, Beatrice Spain, Hilda Auggia, Charlene Farmer, Brenda Jones, Jean Parker, and Ruby DiDonato.

He retired after 37 years of service to the Teamster (United) as a heavy equipment operator. Mr. Tate was known to his friends and family as “a prayer warrior” and a devoted Christian. He was a member of Christ Worship Center. He enjoyed football and NASCAR, especially the LA Rams and Jeff Gordon. He enjoyed mowing his grass with his zero turn mower and he loved eating fried okra.

He is preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers; 3 sisters. Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at 2pm in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Brother Randy Hester officiating. Burial followed in the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery with his grandsons serving as pallbearers.

Visitation was held at the funeral home on Monday, January 31, 2022 from 4-8pm and again on Tuesday from 10am until the hour of service at 2pm.

Mr. Morris was born May 24, 1939 in Robertson County to the late J.C. and Cecil Johnson Morris. He was a cowboy, a logger, a construction worker, a farmer, and whatever he needed to be at the time. He was the roughest, toughest man you would meet, but the softest, sweetest person you could ever know, even playing Santa at times. He was “Papaw” to his favorites, “Daddy” to his next, and “Uncle Alford” or “Mr. Alford” to most. He always seemed to be happy, laughing and smiling every time you saw him and will truly be missed by everyone who knew him.

In addition to his parents Mr. Morris is preceded in death by his daughters, Beverly Jane Morris and Tammy Annette Morris, his brother, James Wayne Morris, his sister, Faye Hall, his daughter-in-law, Tonya Morris, and his son-in-law, Paul Roark.

She departed this life on January 20, 2022. Shelia attended Robertson County Public Schools.
She was a loving mother and friend. She had a great love for cooking, grilling, art, music and dancing and a much greater love for her family. Shelia was loved by everyone who knew her.

She professed a hope in Christ at a young age and became a member of New Jerusalem Temple Pentecostal Church, later changing her membership to Mount Herman Community Church.

Mrs. Suratt was born on September 8, 1927 in Lewisburg, Tennessee to the late Earl W. & Clara Bell Ketchum Wilson. She was a retired Soil Lab Technician for the University of Tennessee. She lived a life fully committed to God and her family. Grace was never in short supply in her presence. She loved her home full of family, love and laughter. She will be deeply missed and forever loved. Mrs. Suratt was a member of Clarksville Highway Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Suratt; and son, Steven Suratt.

Gone way too soon, but GOD had a greater plan for our loved one. Our beloved Willie O’Neal “Spoon” Witherspoon was born May 3, 1951 in Lexington, Tennessee. He was called Home to Eternal Rest on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at the age of 70. “Spoon” as he was known by many, attended Henderson County Schools.

He worked at Wiley Steel for many years. Upon retirement, he enjoyed being a mechanic and spending time with family.
He was christened in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit as a child and accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. Willie “Spoon” had a love for his Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church Family where he sung in the Male Chorus, was a Trustee, and devoted Sunday School Teacher.

He loved people and never met a stranger. His favorite songs were “The Lord Will Make A Way Somehow” “He’s Done Enough” and “Lord I Know You’ve Been So Good.” Willie “Spoon” will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the entire community. He touched so many lives and will forever live on in our hearts.

Willie’s “Spoon” mother; Pauline Wess; grand-parents, Thomas and Willie M. Witherspoon; aunts, Mary Jo Parker, Nora Bell, Augusta Carver and Juanita Witherspoon; and brother-in-law, CH Carver have preceded him death.

His children, Antonio (Fallon) Witherspoon, Allan (Ashley) Gardner, Aaron (Demetria) Gardner, Andrelo Witherspoon, Harold Sharkley, Mardrickus (Kim) Blakemore, Anthony (Courtney) Blakemore, Jarvis (Tiarra) Blakemore, Michael (Pharrah) Head, Trey Witherspoon, Courtney (Ryan) Baker, Jackie (Antwon) Browder, Jerricko (Brittany) Johnson, Anettra (Mitchel) Northington, Myron (Methia) Babb, Michael Babb, Lawanda (Ricky) Townsend, DeCarla Sherrod, Tyasha Sherrod, and Maurissa Gardner were the loves of his life who will always cherish his memories.

Mr. Sircy was born July 17, 1950 in Schochoh, Ky to the late Arlis “Buck” and Hazel Helen Mcguire Sircy. He was a retired carpenter and contractor and proudly served in the U.S. Army, receiving a Purple Heart during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed watching boxing, Nascar, and the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team. He also enjoyed camping, spending time with his family and especially spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Sircy was a member of the Adairville Methodist Church, the American Legion #45, the DAV Springfield Chapter #21 and the Sons of Confederate Veterans.

In addition to his parents Mr. Sircy is preceded in death by his brothers, Howard Sircy and James Sircy, his sisters, Ann Sircy, Anna Gunderson, and Barbara Jean Burchett.
