Points of interest

All over the map, there are locations of interest which Arthur will sketch. These places will most likely come naturally, but if you find that you've not sketched somewhere yet I suggest the statue puzzle, which is very simple to find.

Head to the above location, and you will be on the side of a rocky mountain. Go to the exact location and there will be an opening within the rocks, which lead to a hole. Go in here and you will eventually end up in a small dark room, with statues stood up. Arthur will sketch the statues when you've walked into the room - there is no need to complete the puzzle, but doing so will give you a few gold bards.

Exotics/Complete "duch*esses and Other Animals"

Start this mission by heading to the growing house behind the Blue Hotel, north of Saint-Denis (Only available after mid-way through chapter 4). Here you will meet Algernon Wasp.

At the start of this walkthrough, I mentioned to you that you should try to keep hold of anything you collect - especially flowers and herbs. This is where the collection will come in handy - but fear not (if you haven't collected anything yet) this is the list for each of Algernon's 5 exotic requests;

Exotic Request 1

Orchids are plants which can be found on the ground or on trees, I will be pointing out their exact location on the map

Plumes are birds and are a bit unpredictable and are different depending on the type of plume and its location.

For the first request, you've been asked to pluck/skin 3 different egret plumes (birds).

  • 5 x Snowy Egret Plumes
  • 5 x Little Egret Plumes
  • 5 x Reddish Egret Plumes

All of the above Plumes can be found in the following location:

It will take about an hour in this one spot to farm all of the needed birds. To re-spawn animals, simply save your game, set up your camp and sleep, then reload your save and you will be in a newly generated world.

The last request is;

  • 15 x Lady of the Night Orchids: These grow on here;

Head to the marked locations, and look on the marked tree for the orchid. The items won't be found anywhere else.

Exotic Request 2

Quite similarly to the first request, you've been asked for 20x Heron Plumes - which can be found in the same/nearby locations as the first plumes

  • 20 x Heron Plumes

  • 7 x Lady Slipper Orchids - these grow in set positions in the west part of the map found here:

10 x Moccasin Flower Orchids - these grow in set positions found here:

Exotic Request 3

25 x Gator Eggs - Quite a strange request, but very easy to find. There is no 'set' location for these, however, they can be found within the marked range below (particularly in the swamp-based areas near-water) These are identifiable by their small-hill shaped mound of mud, with 2 or 3 eggs on top.

3 x Acuna’s Star Orchids - these grow in set positions here;

7 x Cigar Orchids - these grow in set positions located here:

5 x Ghost Orchids - these grow in set positions located here:

Exotic Request 4

30 x Spoonbill Plumes - These plumes can be found at noon in these set locations (it's a small area so make sure to use the respawn method I mentioned earlier for this area).

5 x Night Scented Orchids - these can be found in set locations here;

10 x Rat Tail Orchids - these can be found in set locations here;

5 x Spider’s Orchids - these can be found in set locations here;

Exotic Request 5

All of these are orchids, so they're in fixed positions.

5 x Clamshell Orchids

5 x Dragon’s Mouth Orchids

5 x Queen’s Orchids

10 x Sparrow’s Egg Orchids

Rock Carvings - Complete "Geology for Beginners"

Start this mission by heading to a small cabin north-west of strawberry, here you will meet Francis Sinclair

Around the map, there are rock-carvings of strange images (there’s 10 of them). Arthur can sketch these strange images, and after sketching all 10 can send them to Francis.

Rock 1

This rock can be found at Owanjila Lake. You will see this carving when walking along the nearby road-west, and then following the shore on the south-west side

Rock 2

For this rock carving, head to the top of Mount Shann, Once you reach the peak, look south heast and walk this direction. Carefully walk down and you will find yourself on a smaller plateau. The carving is on the rock-wall overlooking this plateau.

Rock 3

Head to Mount Hagen by following the path on the map leading to its peak. Right before the path ends, look to your right and there will be a rock formation - the carving is here.

Rock 4

Head over to the road near Whityard Straight until you come across a wooden bridge, head north-west of the bridge and you will see the carving on the rocky peaks above you.

Rock 5

Make your way to the north-west peak of Cumberland Forest, facing the Dakota River. Look down toward a bridge, and underneath it will be a small ledge. Head here and you can get to the cliff face where the rock carving is.

Rock 6

Head over to the peak overlooking the Dakota River near Bacchus station, to the north you will see a lower ledge, head along here to and you will see the carving near the end of the ledge

Rock 7

Head south from Moonstone Pond and make your way towards the heartland overflow until you reach a plateau, overlooking the heartland overflow, to the east, is a rock carving which is slightly hidden.

Rock 8

Go over to the Eastern side of the Elysian Pool, and there you will be able to find this rock carving next to the path on a rock wall - this one is pretty high up

Rock 9

Make your way over to near to the top of Roanoke Ridge at the top of the map, when you reach Deer Cottage you will manage to see it directly East. Just head up towards it

Rock 10

South of Valentine, towards Limpany, look for a slight ridge on a hill to the south of the burned settlement and you will be able to see this rock carving on a hill to the side.

Some can be slightly tricky to spot, here's a video is you need more visual help.

All hunting requests / Complete "A Better World, A New Friend"

Glitch warning: Make sure you do NOT have the carcass of an animal already in your inventory that is on the next hunting request. This can make the game glitch out and never tick off that you have that carcass.

To start the hunting request you must find a poster at one of the post-offices, which request a perfect carcass of specific animals. (Perfect = Perfect condition). Animal carcasses are ranked from 1 star to 3 stars, so not only do we have to find these animals but we also have to collect a perfect condition carcass of them all too. Never skin the animal, be quick with delivering it back to the post office and when carrying it be extra careful as the carcass can easily be damaged and lose its perfect condition.

After you have the perfect carcass' of the animals for the hunting request on one poster, you can return to the post office and send the carcass to the person who requested them; Ms.Hobbs. After 24 hours you can move to the next post office and start the next hunting request (Yes, this is the longest 'collectable' in the game)

TIP: You can skin the legendary Buck and craft the Buck Trinket at a Fence to help you increase animal quality! This is very important and something that could save you potentially hours!

How do I get a perfect carcass?:

  1. Use Herbivore Bait. All requests require these so stock up 99 if possible as you will use them all very quickly
  2. Buy a Varmint Rifle
  3. Grab the hunting request poster then go to the animal spawn area, place the bait in a calm area which you can observe from metres away whilst crouched.
  4. Use your binoculars to study the animal - even if you've discovered that animal before, this will tell you the condition of the animal. The bottom right corner, when studied, will give a 1,2 or 3-star rating on the animal's condition. You need to make sure that is 3 stars. You can still sometimes get a perfect carcass with a 2-star animal IF you have the Buck Trinket.
  5. Get a clean kill on the animal (1 hit kill). This is done by shooting the animal at it's weakest point; It's head or heart
  6. Tiny animals need to be killed with small game arrows, medium sized animals should be killed with the Varmint rifle, and rarely a large animal needs to be killed with a rifle
  7. After the kill, picking up the animal if it's in perfect condition and you will receive a check mark on the hunting request (Hold Guide for Red Dead Redemption 2 (51) > "Wildlife Art Exhibition" to view progress)
  8. Once you have the perfect carcass of ALL the animals in the current request, head back to the nearest post office carefully and send them off to Ms.Hobbs

This process can take a long time because it's dependant on when/if an animal spawns, what condition the animal is in, and how clean your kill is- all can vary for each animal.

Posters

Posters can be found in any of these 5 post offices; Valentine, Strawberry, Rhodes, Saint Denis and Van Horn Trading Outpost. You only need to find one of these posts to start the quest-line. After picking up your first Hunting Request poster, the next one will automatically start once the first one is completed.

Squirrels aren't too much trouble to find. They're mainly found in the North-East of the map, and might be spotted when riding round the area from time to time. After a cutscene, you will have a Squirrel Statue. You must put it above the fireplace at Beecher’s hope (your farm after the main story is finished), then it gets stolen 6 times and you have to find the statue each time and return the statue to its place above the fireplace. Here are the 6 places the statue will be found, in order;

  1. Chest in John’s Bedroom
  2. Check the Chimney in John’s Bedroom
  3. Go to the kitchen where you’ll find a ladder to the loft. It’s in the chest on the right.
  4. Outside next to the barn where the sheep are, inside the wheelbarrow.
  5. Inside the barn, climb the ladder and it’s in the chest.
  6. This one is very far away. It’s way off in the north of West Elizabeth Region, north of Strawberry, on Mount Shann

Complete a treasure hunt chain. *This is also a stranger mission*

Throughout the game, you will come across maps, whether it’s given to you by a stranger or if you find the map when looting. Simply complete one of these map-chains and discover all the loot. I did the Jack Hall treasure first as you can complete this as early as Chapter 2.

Simply head over west of Flatneck station and north of the railroad;

This stranger will give you the map for $10, or you can rob him. I suggesting paying for it as we are aiming to have a high honour.

The first location is Caliban's Seat, located south of valentine - It's noticeable from 2 large peaks that are fairly obvious to spot when you're heading to the location -

When you arrive you will notice that Caliban's Seat is one large peak. Head south of this peak, opposite where we are in the image above. From here, walk up the peak until you reach the grassy area on top. Once on top, walk forward and head right, there will be a steady slope that hugs the side of the peak which you can walk across. This slope carries all the way along the park - but be careful of 2 gaps which you'll have to jump across. When you reach the end of this slope, there will be a hole in the side of the rocks. Search this hole to find the 2nd map.

The second location is Cotorra Spring, which is north of Fort Wallace.

Head to this location and you will find a few rocks scattered around. Find this rock, identifiable by its flat top and it's closest to the geysers of the north-east.

Search beneath this rock formation for the 3rd map . . .

This location is the easiest to get to in my opinion, my only suggestion is to have maximum stamina!

Head to O'Creagh's Run which is north-east of the map. You need to get to the small island in the middle of this lake, identifiable by the large tree on it.

Once you've reached the island, search for an open green patch of land on the south-east side of the island. Here you can find a small rock, search beneath it to uncover 2 gold bars that you can sell at the fence!

This will complete this challenge.

Find all 20 Dreamcatchers

Dreamcatchers are located all around the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 and are mostly hung from trees. Here is a guide to all 20 of them;

1. The first Dreamcatcher can be found just Northwest of Latneck Station, across from the Dakota River. It's hanging from a tree.

2. The next is very slight Southwest of Caliban’s Seat., Again, hanging from some large trees.

3. For this Dreamcatcher, set a marker on your map just below the first “E” near the town of Valentine, just off the dirt track. There’s a large tree with a stump in front of it that has the third Dreamcatcher hanging from its branches.

4. The fourth Dreamcatcher can be found near The Grizzles. Set a waypoint just below the S in “West”, Northeast of Cattail Pond. Head up into the mountains until you reach a clearing. On a dead looking tree you’ll find the fourth Dreamcatcher.

5. This next Dreamcatcher is North of the Dakota River, Southwest of Window Rock. Set a waypoint just off the beaten track. There should be a fallen tree to your left, so go a little further up the hill and on your left will be a tree with a Dreamcatcher hanging from it.

6. Now, set a waypoints marker Cotorra Springs and Bacchus Bridge. There is a clearing with lots of skinny trees and one much larger tree where you’ll find it hanging from the branches.

7. Head over to the East of the map near the location labelled The Loft, which is to the Northeast of the Grizzlies East map point. Just in front of this structure is another dead looking tree with a Dreamcatcher hanging from it.

8. Set a waypoint on the just above the road between Annesburg and Roanoke Valley. Head into the trees to spot the Dreamcatcher.

9. Just Southwest of where you previously were, roughly between the “N” and the “E” of Annesburg on the map. Head to the point where the road splits and there will be a Dreamcatcher hanging from the tree to your left.

10. Southeast of the previous location, near the road between the “U” and the “R” of Annesburg on the map. Head up the hill and you will find it hanging from a tree

11. South of Annesburg, just off the road. There should be a large rock to your left and you can head into the trees to find the next Dreamcatcher.

12. South of the Elysian Pool. Head past a large bush to an even larger tree is where this one is hanging.

13. Set a waypoint between where the road forks just above the “B” at Bluewater Marsh. There’s a tree in the middle of these two paths where you’ll find the next Dreamcatcher.

14.Head West from this point, just above Lonnie’s Shack on the map. Just off the path, you’ll find another dead tree with a Dreamcatcher hanging from it.

15. This next Dreamcatcher can be found West of the Aberdeen Pig Farm. It’s the only tree in the open space and the Dreamcatcher is big enough to spot straight away.

16. Set a waypoint marker on the inner right-hand side of the “O” in the New Hanover label on the map. Go up the hill, up past the rail track to find the Dreamcatcher on a large tree.

17. Head over to the East of Guthrie Farm, South of Heartland Overflow. You’ll need to go off the beaten track to find a somewhat isolated tree and your next Dreamcatcher.

18. Near the “N” on The Heartlands label of the map, there is a lonely barren tree with a Dreamcatcher to be found swinging from its branches.

19. Set a waypoint slightly Northeast of Citadel Rock to find the Dreamcatcher. Right off the pathway to the left is where you’ll find it.

20. Set a waypoint beside the first “E” in New Hanover. It’s hanging from a tree to the left of the railroad tracks

Once you’ve found the last Dreamcatcher, Arthur will pull out his notebook to reveal there is one final marker you haven’t discovered yet.

The final marker is at the Elysian Pool. Set a waypoint for the Northern part of the Pool, and head behind the waterfall. The path inside the caves behind the waterfall is very dark, so bring a lantern.

Head through the cave until the path splits and take a right. You’ll see some light coming through. Climb the rocks in front of you until you see an ancient cave painting on the walls to the right, interact with this to complete this collection chain.

Legendary Animals

Legendary Bull Gator - This gator can be found in the south east of the map, in Lemoyne. On the western shore of the Lagras Lake. Use dead eye along with a powerful revolver or rifle and be prepared to run quickly.

Legendary Bharati Grizzly Bear - In the northern region of Ambarino, in Grizzlies East, you can find the bear slowly moving around. Be prepared to fire quickly with a rifle as it will charge at you if you startle it.

Legendary Beaver - The Beaver can be found in Hanover, west of Van Horn Trading post. It will run from you after you shoot or get too close, so use dead-eye to get the kill in one big burst.

Legendary White Bison - In the north-west side of Ambarino, west of Barrow Lagoon is this Bison. Use a powerful weapon like a shotgun or revolver with dead-eye.

Legendary Tatanka Bison - In the southern area of West Elizabeth, south of Stillwater Creek is this Bison. Use a powerful weapon like a shotgun or revolver with dead-eye.

Legendary Boar - In Bluewater Marsh, on the east side of Kamassa river is the boar. It can be hard to spot during the night. Use dead-eye to headshot it before it quickly runs away.

Legendary Buck - In West Elizabeth area, north-west of Strawberry and directly north of Lake Owanjila, we can find the buck. Approach slowly and use dead-eye to get a headshot.

Legendary Cougar - the Cougar can be found in the New Austin part of the map, west of Tumbleweed over Gaptooth Ridge. You have to be quick when approaching this kill, as the Cougar is very quick and equally as powerful. A shotgun when he's close, with dead-eye, works well.

Legendary Coyote - the Coyote can be found in Lemoyne, just south of Dewberry Creek

Legendary Fox - The Fox can be found west of Lemoyne, roaming around Mattock Pond.

Legendary Elk - This Elk can be found east of Fort Wallace. It's quite an easy kill, just don't startle the Elk and use dead-eye for a headshot from a distance.

Legendary Moose - The Moose is found in the very north-east part of the map, it's on the western shore of Kamassa River

Legendary Giaguaro Panther - The Panther can be found in Lemoyne, south of Rhodes, in an area called Bolger Blade. **The Panther will ONLY spawn after completing the ninth Master Hunter Challenge**. Use a quick weapon, like a dual wielded pistol with dead-eye for this kill.

Legendary Pronghorn - In the New Austin region, South-East of Fort Mercer is the Pronghorn (West of Rio del Lobo Rock). Use dead-eye and a rifle for this one.

Legendary Big Horn Ram - Just north-west of Valentine, across the river, is the ram. Use dead-eye and a rifle from a distance to tackle this guy.

Legendary Wolf - The Wolf can be found centre of Ambarino, north of Dakota River. Use a pistol and dead-eye for this kill.
